Sharing a file to the Content Factory means uploading raw footage, images, documents, or other assets to the shared Google Drive or Dropbox folder where the Content Factory team can access them for processing. This is a foundational Produce stage task in the Content Factory because nothing can be processed, posted, or promoted until the raw materials are in the shared workspace.
There are two methods for getting files into the Content Factory: uploading directly from your computer to the shared folder, or moving files from your personal Google Drive to the Content Factory’s shared drive. Both methods accomplish the same goal—getting your raw content into the hands of the team that will transcribe, edit, write about, and distribute it.
Where File Sharing Fits in the Content Factory
File sharing belongs to the Produce stage. It happens immediately after content is filmed, recorded, or created, and before any processing can begin. Once files are in the shared drive, the team can upload raw video to YouTube, organize pillar content in Google Drive, and begin the transcription process in Descript.

Prerequisites
You need an invitation link to the Content Factory shared folder from a team member. You need the file or files you want to share saved on your computer or in your personal Google Drive. For large video files, ensure you have a stable internet connection as uploads may take significant time.
Option A: Upload Directly from Your Computer
Click the shared folder invitation link provided by your team member. Once the folder opens in Google Drive, click the + icon in the upper left corner. Select “File Upload” from the menu. Navigate to the file on your computer, select it, and click “Open.” The upload progress will display in a notification box. Once the upload is complete, the file will appear in the shared folder and the team can begin working with it.
Option B: Move from Your Google Drive
If the file is already in your personal Google Drive, open Google Drive and locate the file. Right-click on it and select “Move To.” Click on “Shared Drives” in the navigation panel. Find the Content Factory folder assigned to you, click the arrow to expand it, then click “Move here.” The file is now accessible to the entire Content Factory team.
Verification Checklist
The file appears in the shared Content Factory folder. The file is not corrupted and can be opened by team members. The file is in the correct sub-folder if the shared drive has a folder structure. Large video files have finished uploading completely (partial uploads will not work). The team has been notified that new files are available for processing.
