You are not the first smart young adult to join this team. The last fifty also thought they would skip the obvious mistakes. They did not. Start here so nobody has to chase you.
This is the canonical start for every new team member. Ops sends this URL in the onboarding email and the first Basecamp ping. The access list and the Level 1 course come after. If you skip this and go hunting through old essays, you will make the same mistakes we have already documented.
The mistakes that keep happening
| What new people do | What we need |
|---|---|
| Stay silent, or answer in a different thread | Always Reply on that thread, 24 hours, one of four states |
| Treat Dennis as their VA and wait to be chased | RACI — if he is chasing you, the Accountable seat is empty |
| Go dark (sick, grandma, wifi) with no coverage | Don’t make me chase you — name who covers the inbox |
| @Dennis on Basecamp so he “sees it” | Don’t tag Dennis. Tag the project, own the A |
| Inbox as a junk drawer | Inbox zero daily. Do, Delegate, Delete |
| Assume the last essay was for slower people | You got this page because the smart ones still failed the basics. Read it. |
Read these, in this order
- Always Reply — two minutes. The #1 miss.
- Team dos and don’ts — the whole professionalism list, including do not message Dennis directly.
- Practice RACI on threads — trim the list to the people in the letters.
- Agent standard operating agreement — hours, reports, courtesy.
- What you should already have — accounts and access. If something is missing, ask Operations, not Dennis.
- What you should have done by now — Level 1, photo, roster, EOD. After this page, not instead of it.
Then do the work. The Level 1 course and 9 Triangles are real. They are not a substitute for answering the thread that asked you.
If this still feels optional
It is not a personality-improvement course. Reliability is the ticket. We already wrote the ending for people who treat silence as a strategy.

Onboarding email + first Basecamp ping. Not a scavenger hunt of old essays. Always Reply is next, not first.
Always Reply Dos and don’tsCanonical start, Aug 18, 2026. Pairs with how we stopped being the team’s VA. If you found a “Welcome, New Team Member” label with no page behind it, this is that page.
