I’m not an online marketer – I’m a search engine engineer.
25 years ago it was my job to protect the results of Yahoo!’s search engine from spammers, scammers, and others who wanted to take advantage of the platform.
SEO is NOT some big complicated system.
That’s why speaking at conferences like the Search Marketing Summit in Australia, I can offer context most online marketers ignore on how to rank in Google.
Ranking higher is as easy as being trustworthy, putting out engaging content, and amplifying what’s already working.
I wrote the bestselling TikTok Ads Book with Perry Marshall on Amazon.
When you search for “TikTok Ads” on Amazon, notice how our book comes up twice.
Once with the sponsored icon, since it’s an ad.
And once organically, since we’re ranking number 1 in the category.
Guess how much I’m spending?
A dollar a day.
Now you’re probably wondering:
“Dennis, I don’t have a bestselling book to promote on Amazon”
Here’s the best part:
Even though I’ve spent millions of dollars on TikTok Ads, the reason why this book is so successful is because of leveraged authority.
In other words, if you can interview someone new for every chapter and plug the rest into ChatGPT, you can leverage the authority of others.
Let’s zoom into another example:
Speaking of Australia, if we go to TikTok and type in “World Gym Australia” what pops up? In other words, when we do a search for World Gym Australia, how many of these videos are actually from World Gym, Australia?
So what are these people doing anyway? Who’s this Mary Y. Y. S. S.? What is she doing? And that didn’t go anywhere, but some of them do. This video for example got over 13.7 million views!
So, what the heck is going on here?
And it’s not the 13.7 million views – I’m looking for a 10% engagement rate. I’m more excited about the number of shares, comments, and likes.
A comment’s worth 6 times that of a like. And a share’s worth 13 times that. So, from a Dollar a Day SEO standpoint, the shares and comments are worth more than anything else.
And so long as these videos and posts are hitting that 10% benchmark, we can continue to promote it.
The fun part is that you have no idea what ads are going to hit that benchmark until you start testing!
For example, for 5 and a half years we ran the ads for the Golden State Warriors.
Ad Results For Our Testing With The Golden State Warriors
As you can see we tested multiple ads using this method.
Our big winner? The bottom right with an insane 35x ROAS.
Let me ask you a question: If you had a checkbook with an unlimited amount of money you were able to spend, which ad would you put more money behind?
The one that’s giving you $35 for every $1 you put in, of course!
But we’d have never had known that if we didn’t test different messages and videos.
The reason I’m sharing these examples with you is because whether it’s going viral with fitness videos, writing and promoting a bestselling book, or anything else…
Dollar a Day is a testing method.
Just like so-called “SEO Optimization”, we’re looking for a 10% engagement rate and to only spend more on winners.
In conclusion, if you want to increase your SEO using Dollar a Day:
- Make engaging content by leveraging the authority of other people in your niche.
- Keep producing content until you have a few winners with over 10% engagement.
- Promote your winners using Dollar a Day and kill your losers.
