Davis Painting is a residential and commercial painting company based outside Philadelphia, PA. Recently, Colby Davis (the owner of the business) reached out to us to see how we can help improve the quality call volume.

This article is an audit of the website’s SEO and digital marketing presence. By writing this, our goal is to create a gameplan for them to overperform heading into 2025 and make it the best year yet.

It’s also a great case study for other local service businesses who service many areas.

What’s Our SEO Look Like?

It’s important to remember that you can’t “do” SEO, since SEO requires demonstrating overwhelming proof that the business does a great job in its local service area.

Currently, Davis Painting boasts nearly a hundred backlinks, which is a solid foundation. But despite so many backlinks, we don’t rank on nearly as many keywords as we would like to.

This means that we can’t get as much organic traffic as we’d like coming in and booking calls with their team. A reason for this is due to a lack of authoritative backlinks.

For example, you’ll notice that a large number of the backlinks we have currently are no-follows or 301s.

What this means is that we don’t have enough link juice being passed on to our website, hence why we’re not ranking quite as high as we’d like to yet. Whenever links are bought or pulled from a website, it’s common to see no-follows and 301s. 

The true potential lies in acquiring high-authority links. For instance, a link from our own Blitzmetrics signifies to Google that your site is trustworthy and relevant. While the feature in Women in Business Magazine is impressive, amplifying this aspect with more robust links from top-tier sites in Pennsylvania or relevant industry giants will enhance your SEO juice substantially.

We need to make sure that high authority websites like BlitzMetrics with a DR score of 63 link to Davis Painting in a relevant way. Since by linking to Davis Painting as we’re doing here, we can easily accelerate this growth due to our website’s authority.

For our keywords, it’s wonderful that we’re ranking in the top position for our name in branded search.

The downside of this however, is that we also want to rank on other terms from folks who haven’t heard of us yet. I’m happy we already see progress with terms like “painting companies villanova” and “painters warren nj”, but this can be accelerated by focusing on getting our authority up and repurposing more content.

For our GMB, we have so much potential with over 300 positive reviews.

But there’s still so much missing information on the profile which by adding, we can increase our overall visibility. For example, we don’t have a clear visible address here or are using the many recommendations Google is giving us.

As a result, our Google Business Profile is barely appearing in our own backyard, despite the abundant social proof and great work Davis Painting does. For example, we can see that despite over 300 positive reviews, we’re hardly ranking within 10 miles of our GMB location for the term “painter”.

What About The Website Content?

Davis Painting is commendably well-designed, featuring location service pages and a compelling gallery that showcases your expertise—a rare find in the local service sector. 

Especially since we have videos and ample EEAT content directly on the home page featuring trucks, personal, and etc. Normally, this is a missing component for most local service businesses and I’m so happy we have it here.

That also applies to making sure the phone number (or a button) is featured on the top right of the website, having socials in view, and making sure there are many avenues for potential customers to contact the team.

To improve on this, there should be a greater focus on our local service area. I know we’re based in Pottsgrove, PA – but is that clear on the website? Is it clear the areas we service immediately?

Enhancing the About Us page to share more about the origins and the journey of Davis Painting will make your website not only more engaging but also enrich its content quality, aligning with Google’s EEAT criteria.

Authentic stories resonate well with audiences and search engines alike. Even though this is a solid start, we have room for improvement. For example, I’d love to hear more stories about how Colby Davis runs the business and his experience as the owner.

What About Generating Quality Calls Now?

SEO is a longterm game but one worth pursuing. In the meantime, what’s the best way for us to start generating more qualified calls in PA and NJ?

Since Davis Painting qualifies for LSA (local service ads), we should certainly start there. The great thing about LSA is that there’s very little iteration involved. We can give it a budget and let it run, assuming we’re also marking the leads as booked. 

After LSA, we can begin iterating more on PPC ads. Google PPC does take more iterations than LSA, but the quality of the leads is typically higher since users are directly searching for the service they want.

One thing that stands out about Davis Painting is the work being done on Facebook.

There’s an abundance of existing content in images and videos. We should test these videos with dollar-a-day ads and find winners we can further promote. Since we’re looking for a 10% engagement rate, we’re likely to find that by testing 7 – 10 pieces of content we already have!

The advantage Davis Painting has compared to most local service businesses is they’re ability to repurpose content and test. You can see that on Facebook and on the website. The abundance of EEAT content means that finding winners is easy we can further repurpose.

With over 300 positive reviews on Google, most of the work is simply borrowing that trust for our website and socials so we can rank higher and get more qualified calls.
