Episode 14 of The Marketing Mechanic — how to identify which Facebook posts are worth boosting and how to target them to drive real phone calls for local service businesses.
The Dollar a Day strategy is one of the most powerful tools for local service businesses, but only when you boost the right content to the right people. In this episode I walk through the exact process for turning Facebook posts into lead generation machines.
Not Every Post Is Worth Boosting
The biggest mistake I see contractors make with Facebook ads is boosting random posts with no strategy. They boost a holiday greeting or a stock photo of an HVAC unit and wonder why they got likes but no calls. The posts worth boosting are the ones that already show organic engagement — before-and-after job photos, customer testimonials, and educational videos from the field.
Use the MAA framework: look at your Metrics first. Which posts got the most comments, shares, and saves organically? Those are your winners. Analyze why they worked — usually it is because they show real work with real results. Then take Action by boosting those specific posts with a dollar a day to expand their reach.
Hyper-Local Targeting for Contractors
When boosting posts for a local service business, your targeting should be tight. I recommend starting with a 15-mile radius around your service area, targeting homeowners aged 30 to 65. You can layer on interests like home improvement, but keep it simple at first. The geo-grid data from your Google rankings can inform which areas to prioritize in your Facebook targeting.
Measuring What Matters
Likes and comments feel good but they do not pay the bills. The metric that matters is phone calls. Set up call tracking so you can trace every call back to the specific post that generated it. This is how you know which dollar-a-day campaigns to keep running and which to pause.
Combine your Facebook boosting with your YouTube content strategy and your Content Factory process for maximum impact. The same video that performs on YouTube can be boosted on Facebook to a different audience.
Start With a Dollar a Day
Pick your best-performing Facebook post from the last month. Boost it with one dollar a day to your service area. Run it for two weeks and track the calls. That is the simplest possible test of whether Facebook boosting works for your business.
