The Business Score (Local Service Spotlight): Rating a Company’s Digital Presence

The Business Score: How We Rate a Company’s Digital Presence (100 Points)

The Personal Brand Score measures the owner. The Business Score measures the company — and most local-service businesses are far easier to find than the person who built them.

We run the Local Service Spotlight on every business we audit. The Business Score rolls a company’s search authority, organic demand, and real-world reputation into one number on the same 0–100 scale as the personal score, so the two can be compared directly.

The three components

1 · Search Authority — 35 points

How much Google trusts the company’s domain, anchored to Ahrefs Domain Rating and branded-search ownership. A roofer at DR 30 with a clean brand SERP scores here; a DR 1 site with a namesake problem does not.

2 · Organic Demand — 30 points

Monthly organic traffic and keyword footprint — the demand the business actually captures from search, measured on a log scale so a jump from 10 to 1,000 visits counts more than 50,000 to 60,000.

3 · Reputation & Reach — 35 points

For local businesses, Google review volume and rating carry this component (an electrician with 128 five-star reviews scores high even with a weak site). For B2B, agency, and media brands with no storefront, audience reach stands in for reviews. Either way, it measures the trust the market has already placed in the business.

⚖️ Why it adapts. A garage-door company lives or dies by Google reviews; an M&A advisory lives by referral and reach. Scoring both on reviews alone would be unfair, so Reputation & Reach uses reviews where a business has a storefront and audience where it doesn’t — documented, not hidden.

The business leaderboard

Every company we have scored, ranked by Business Score. Executives who don’t own the company they’re identified with are marked and excluded from the brand-vs-business correlation.

Note the pattern: companies routinely outscore their owners. That gap — strong business, invisible founder — is exactly what the Content Factory closes, and it’s the subject of our brand-vs-business study.
